Iraq U-22 national soccer team wins 2014 Asian Cup
The Embassy welcomed local Iraqi community in Washington to watch the Iraq-Saudi match.
On January 26, 2014, Ambassador Faily and his family joined local Iraqi community at the Washington, DC Consulate to watch the U-22 Iraqi National Soccer team play Saudi Arabia in the 2014 Asian Cup.
Iraq’s coach Hakeem Shakir expressed happiness and pride after the match, saying: “We had such a brilliant performance in this tournament. No body expected us to win this championship. But we managed to clinch the title despite facing many difficulties.”
Iraq maintained a 100 percent record in the tournament and won the match with a final score of 1-0. Guests at the Consulate were happy and proud of the Iraqi National team.
