Ambassador Faily: ISIS is a mutation of its predecessors

In his remarks at Al Hewar Center, Ambassador Faily reiterated that ISIS is not a new phenomenon, but a variant of a pre-existing movement.

On October 15, 2014, Ambassador Faily delivered remarks on Iraq and its fight against terrorism to an audience at Al Hewar Center.

Ambassador Faily stressed that the current war in Iraq and the region is an extension of a broad ideological struggle, and therefore should not be viewed as a new phenomenon, but as a variant of a pre-existing movement.

Ambassador Faily explained that foreign fighters are recruited from all over the globe, thus they constitute a threat not only to Iraq but to the region and the world.Iraq is fighting on behalf of the international community and at the apex of a global struggle, said Ambassador Faily.

He concluded his remarks by reiterating that the only way to fight this ideology is through a comprehensive regional strategy.
