Dr. Jabir Habeb Jabir was appointed as Iraq’s Ambassador to the United States in January 2012 and is the country’s highest-ranking representative in the United States.
In 2005, Dr. Jabir was elected to the Iraqi Parliament where he served as a member in the Constitution Review and the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committees. He then joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was responsible for managing the “Arab Region” department at the Ministry before being appointed as Ambassador to the United States.
Born in Baghdad in 1955, Dr. Jabir obtained his Bachelor Degree in Political Science from Baghdad University in 1980 and his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Dundee University in the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Jabir’s extensive and unique background spans 20 years and includes serving as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Baghdad University and as an associate senior lecturer at the Iraqi Justice Institution. He has written for a variety of distinguished academic publications and international media outlets, such as the London based “Asharq Alawsat” newspaper.
Ambassador Jabir is a member of the Iraqi Political Science Association, an organization compromised of Iraqi professors and academics. He is married and has three children.
