This section explains the requirements for extending the validity of Iraqi passports. The Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington, DC extends Iraqi passports type S only for individuals residing in the States that fall under its jurisdiction – Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. For states that fall outside the jurisdiction of the Consular Section in Washington, DC please contact the Consulate that is responsible for your area for instructions and guidelines on how to extend Iraqi passports.
Important Notes:
- Iraqi passports type M, N and H are no longer extendable and are not recognized worldwide.
- Iraqi passports type S can be extended one time only for 8 years from the date the passport was issued (not from the expiration date).
- A limited number of countries recognize Iraqi passports type S. If you have a valid Iraqi passport type S, please consult the embassy or consulate of the country you plan to visit or transit through before making travel arrangements to make sure they recognize type S passports.
- United States authorities recognize Iraqi passports type S for travel to and from the US only for Iraqis that have permanent residency status in the US.
Requirements for Extending Iraqi Passports Type S:
- Complete the Passport Extension Application Form available only in the Arabic language.
- Submit two recent identical front-view color photographs with white background measuring 2 inches × 2 inches (5 × 5 centimeters).
- Copies of the Iraqi Identity Cards (Ahwal Madaneeya) and Iraqi Nationality Certificate (Shahadat Al Jinseeya).
- Copy of US Permanent Residency Card.
- Applicants are then required to send – via registered mail – their actual, undamaged S type passport along with a money order of $25 (twenty-five US Dollars) payable to the Embassy of Iraq along with an addressed pre-paid return envelope with sufficient postage that clearly states the sender’s name.
