For Immediate Release
WASHINGTON, DC (February 5, 2014) – In light of the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq, one of which targeted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad, Ambassador Lukman Faily issued the following statement:
“The heinous attacks on innocent Iraqis by Al-Qaeda affiliates demonstrate the indiscriminate hatred that terrorists possess towards Iraqis of all ethnic and religious backgrounds. One attack, carried out by a suicide bomber outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, killed eleven innocent people and wounded several more, including some of our foreign service colleagues.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We wish those who have been injured a speedy recovery as we renew our determination to bring to justice the criminals who planned and carried out these evil attacks.
“Iraqis will not be intimidated by these cowardly acts, and we will not waiver in our resolve to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from our country as we continue to build a peaceful, democratic and free Iraq.”
