Appointed-Ambassador Faily arrives in Washington

Iraq’s Appointed-Ambassador to the United States, Lukman Faily, presented his credentials at the U.S. State Department on May 31.

Iraq’s Ambassador-appointed to the United States, Lukman Faily, presented his credentials to Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns during a brief welcome ceremony on May 31 at the U.S. State Department. Mr. Faily, who most recently served for three years as Iraq’s Ambassador to Japan, said he is looking forward to deepening the friendship and cooperation between the United States and Iraq during his tour as Ambassador to the United States, which will officially begin in July, after he presents his credentials to President Obama.

“It is an honor to be selected by my government as Iraq’s Ambassador to the United States,” Mr. Faily said. “This is an extraordinarily important time for our two countries to continue working together to bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East. I am looking forward to making new friends, cementing the bilateral relationship and getting down to work.”
