Appointed-Ambassador Faily Participates in Iraqi Women’s Advancement Program

Appointed-Ambassador Lukman Faily recently joined visiting Iraqi delegation in the Iraqi Women’s Democracy Initiative (IWDI), a program conducted under the US Department of State, where he delivered remarks about the advancement of women in Iraq.

Appointed-Ambassador Lukman Faily recently joined visiting Iraqi delegation in the Iraqi Women’s Democracy Initiative (IWDI), a program conducted under the US Department of State. The event was held in Washington, DC on June 18th, 2013 at the Cosmos Club.

The Ambassador delivered remarks about the creation of articles in the constitution that will increase the role of women in Iraqi parliament and provincial councils. Ambassador Faily also discussed Economic Assistance and Livelihood in Iraq, corresponding to the Secretary Kerry’s Office of Global Women’s issues.

Ambassador Faily expressed his appreciation towards the United States and their role in funding NGOs that support entrepreneurship and vocational skills for Iraqi widows and female heads of household.

Among those in attendance was Former Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, Melanne Verveer and many Governmental and Non-Governmental representatives working to support women’s advancement in Iraq, including USAID, Women for Women International, and university representatives that work to make scholarship programs available for Iraqi women.
