Embassy Statement on Iraqi F-16 Crash

WASHINGTON, DC – Iraq’s Ambassador to the United States, Lukman Faily, released the following statement regarding the crash of an Iraqi F-16 in Arizona on June 24:
“We were saddened to learn of the training accident in Arizona last night involving an Iraqi F-16 aircraft and we eagerly await news on the status of the pilot. The Embassy staff and I are working closely with our counterparts in Baghdad and in the US government, including at the Departments of State and Defense, on the search and rescue operations ongoing in Arizona.
“We will continue to coordinate with the appropriate experts and authorities as they investigate the cause of last night’s crash.
“The Embassy staff and I offer our prayers for the safety of the pilot and to his family which is anxiously waiting an update on his status.”
