General Martin Dempsey Welcomes Foreign Minister to the Pentagon
The U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff welcomed Foreign Minister Zebari and Ambassador Faily to the Pentagon in Washington, DC for discussions on military and security cooperation between Iraq and the U.S.
Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, his accompanying delegation and Ambassador Faily were welcomed by General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, on August 16, 2013 at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
During the meeting, military and security cooperation between Iraq and the United States were discussed, as in accordance with the Strategic Framework Agreement. The two sides also discussed military developments within Iraq and the security situation in the Middle East region.
Minister Zebari and General Dempsey both stressed the importance of dialogue and communication between the two countries to combat terrorism and extremism. The meeting was attended by a number of experts and advisers to the U.S. Department of Defense.
