Iraqi Inspectors General Complete U.S. Study Tour

18 IG’s from Iraq visited the U.S. on a two week tour to engage with their American counterparts as part of efforts to strengthen anti-corruption mechanisms in Iraq.

Eighteen Inspectors General from Iraq visited Washington D.C. from January 27 – February 6 as part of a U.S. Department of State-sponsored study tour. The purpose of the trip was to engage with their American counterparts and develop and discuss joint areas of cooperation as part of efforts to strengthen anti-corruption mechanisms in Iraq.

They also met with other officials from the U.S. government and executives from major companies in the field of Information Technology including Cisco, Microsoft, and Oracle.

The Inspectors General were received by Ambassador of Iraq to the United States, Lukman Faily. The trip concluded with a guided tour of Congress, organized by the Office of the Speaker of the House; and a meeting with staff members from the House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee.

The United Nations Development Program and the American Council of Inspectors General helped in facilitating the group’s visit.
