Iraqi Ambassador to the United States Lukman Faily penned an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal to discuss the framework for a new economic partnership with the United States, reflect on the progress Iraq has made as a country, and thank the American people for their sacrifice.
Discussions included human rights, political cooperation, the economic side of the Strategic Framework Agreement and educational partnerships.
“Transactional, Transitional, Transformational: Changing the Paradigm on American and Iraqi Cooperation,” was organized by the Iraqi Cultural Office and the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation Office to the U.S., with support from the U.S. Department of State.
Mr. Faily observed the process of restoring and maintaining the Iraqi Jewish Archive and discussed final phases of the repatriation of the Archive to Iraq.
Mr. Nabil Elaraby contacted Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari to welcome Iraq’s exit from Chapter VII sanctions and said he considers the decision an historical achievement.
Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari expressed Iraq’s appreciation for the UN Secretary General’s efforts to remove Iraq from Chapter VII sanctions and noted that Iraq has regained full sovereignty as an effective member in the international community through this resolution.
