Iraq to subsidize Ramadan foods

The government allocated $500 million to subsidize basic foods during Ramadan, in an effort to protect families from price hikes.

On July 2, 2014 the government of Iraq announced that it will subsidize basic foods during the holy month of Ramadan. The program aims to protect Iraqi families from price hikes in local food markets. The government has signed agreements with international companies worth almost $500 million to supply the food. The contracts are set to take effect immediately.
